Constructing the Lazy Man’s Fishing Trap

In a survival situation, it is very rare for you carry a fishing pole during your whole ordeal because of the size of a fishing pole. Unfortunately, without a fishing pole, you cannot catch fish. Not true! If you carry a fishing hook and some line in your bug-out-bag or survival kit, that is all you need. You can also buy paracord survival bracelets that have fishing hooks, line and a split-shot sinker inside of them. You could make yourself a cane pole with your survival fishing line or you can create a trap that is just as effective as a cane pole but better. A trap works 24/7. You can be building a shelter or starting a fire while your trap is at work. The trap that you can construct with your survival fishing line and a hook is called the Lazy Man’s Fishing Trap. A trap works 24/7. You can be building a shelter or starting a fire while your trap is at work. The trap that you can construct with your survival fishing line and a hook is called the Lazy Man’s Fishing Trap. It is constructed from a stick, fishing line, a hook, and a knife. It is very easy to make and very effective in a survival situation.

Steps:

1. Find a strong and sturdy stick about 1 inch in diameter and about 18 inches long.

2. Take your knife and make one end of the stick have a point so that you can later anchor it into the ground.

3. Using your knife, make a circular groove toward the top of the stick.fishing-snare

4. Take about 10 feet of fishing line and tie one end of the line onto the groove of the stick.

5. Take the other end of the line and tie your hook onto it using the clinch (fishing) knot. Attach a slip-shot sinker above the hook, if available.

6. Attach desired fishing bait onto the hook. You can find worms and other critters by looking under logs and rocks. To learn how to catch your own fishing bait you can read my book, Harvesting Nature’s Bait Shop.

7. Anchor the stick into the ground by the body of water. Make sure it is strongly in the ground.

8. Take the fishing line and toss it into the water. Then leave it there and come back later. Pull in the line and see what you have caught.
